Rethinking media funding
Gilles Marchand, Manon Plegat (Hrsg.)
The media are experiencing a multifactorial crisis that is undermining their ability to contribute to a functioning democracy. Public services no longer seem to have the necessary financial and symbolic resources to fulfil their role in the media market. Conversely, commercial players are encouraged to focus their activities on maximizing resources. In an attempt to overcome these dual constraints, this book brings together contributions that explore a “third way” offering an alternative to state and commercial funding: philanthropy. It examines the conditions required for a virtuous form of philanthropic engagement by investigating the drivers of a dual legitimacy: donating to the media and receiving donations as a media outlet. Contributors to this book include Sylvain Bourmeau, Nicolas Duvoux, Sylvain Lafrance, Renaud Legoux, Gilles Marchand, Manon Plegat, Patrice Schneider, Nathalie Sonnac, and Nadège Vezinat.
